About the position

The Vice President of Operations is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all operational aspects of the warehousing and distribution functions of the business. This role involves managing day-to-day operations, driving operational efficiency, ensuring high service levels, and contributing to long-term strategic growth. The VP of Operations collaborates with other executive leaders to support and advance company goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with business goals, focusing on efficiency, productivity, and quality.
  • Lead and manage the operations team, including warehouse, logistics, and supply chain functions.
  • Continuously analyze and improve operational processes, identifying opportunities for innovation and cost savings.
  • Oversee all aspects of warehouse operations, including inventory control, order fulfillment, and quality assurance.
  • Implement systems and processes to optimize stock levels, reduce shrinkage, and ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure efficient use of warehouse space, implementing strategies to handle demand surges and reduce operational bottlenecks.
  • Manage logistics and distribution functions to guarantee timely and cost-effective product delivery.
  • Establish strong relationships with freight and logistics partners, negotiating contracts and ensuring service level agreements are met.
  • Implement route optimization, tracking, and other logistics solutions to enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Set performance targets for operational staff and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and safety protocols.
  • Develop and manage operational budgets, ensuring expenses are in line with financial goals.
  • Analyze financial reports to monitor operational costs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to prepare forecasts, cost analyses, and other financial assessments.
  • Evaluate and implement technology solutions that support operational efficiency, such as warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and logistics software.
  • Collaborate with IT to address operational system needs, ensuring alignment with overall business technology strategy.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technological advancements to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including OSHA and environmental guidelines.
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols and standards within the warehouse and logistics operations.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure regulatory compliance and safety standards are maintained.
  • Ensure operations support a high level of customer satisfaction through efficient, accurate, and timely order fulfillment.
  • Implement quality control processes to minimize errors and improve overall service reliability.
  • Respond to escalated customer issues promptly, working with relevant departments to resolve operational challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in operations or logistics management within the wholesale distribution industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of warehouse management, logistics, and inventory control systems.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in ERP and WMS software; knowledge of advanced logistics and inventory management technologies is a plus.
  • Proven experience in senior leadership roles within operations management or related fields.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning and execution, with a focus on achieving measurable results.
  • A track record of successful process improvement initiatives that have led to increased efficiency or cost savings.
  • Excellent leadership abilities with a passion for developing talent and fostering team collaboration.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
