The Vice President of Operations is a critical leadership role responsible for directing and overseeing the overall operations and site management of the Distribution Centers (DCs). This position entails negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements while implementing and ensuring adherence to procedures that foster a safe, efficient, service-oriented, and profitable department. As the most senior position in the market DCs, the VP Operations holds the responsibility for overall site management for standalone locations, focusing on supply chain responsibilities. The role includes hard line reporting to the Regional Vice President of Operations and dotted line reporting to the Area President, shared with multiple other facilities, typically 1-3 DCs per Area. In terms of planning and directing, the VP Operations is tasked with establishing long-term operations objectives that align with the business goals. This includes developing and executing a strategic plan for the operations department and integrating the various activities of shipping, receiving, transportation, purchasing, and sales. The VP will engage with each function to discuss accountabilities and interdependence in achieving company goals, while also participating in the establishment of overall Distribution Center business goals. The role also emphasizes maintaining profitable operations by planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the course of operations. This involves integrating and coordinating operations functions and processes with business goals, controlling inventory, minimizing losses, and ensuring safety. The VP Operations will seek synergies and best practices to develop and implement new methods aimed at improving productivity and customer service. Safety and compliance are paramount, as the VP will guide operations management in adhering to government regulations and company programs. This includes implementing programs to ensure safety, security, maintenance, and ergonomics within the operations functions. Additionally, the VP will delegate responsibilities to managers to meet productivity goals, enforce company policies on safety and employee discipline, and oversee the performance of warehouse associates. Networking is also a key component of this role, as the VP will participate in the Operations knowledge center, industry organizations, and other networking opportunities to share best practices and bring in new know-how. For union facilities, the VP will also be responsible for negotiating terms of collective bargaining agreements. Other duties may be assigned by the manager as needed.
