About the position

The Vice President of People and Operations at The Humane League is a leadership role focused on overseeing the Operations department, particularly in human resources and compliance. This position is crucial for developing and implementing effective HR systems, policies, and procedures that align with the organization's mission to end the abuse of animals raised for food. The VP will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to foster a high-performance work environment and ensure operational functions meet long-term strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead large-scale internal system and process optimization for talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations, learning and development, employee engagement, compensation and benefits, and global HR functions.
  • Cultivate a high-accountability environment where employees feel empowered and trusted in their roles.
  • Coach and inspire a team of senior leaders, contributing to the organization's strategic vision.
  • Create and implement a comprehensive HR agenda that aligns with THL's people and culture vision.
  • Lead the development of THL's employee handbook and ensure compliance with best practices for US and global staff.
  • Lead organizational change and crisis management initiatives, ensuring effective response strategies are in place.
  • Oversee executive-level financial decisions and manage large-scale budgets.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and ensure compliance with HR practices.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience in mission-driven organizations.
  • 7+ years of people management experience, particularly in nonprofit settings.
  • Proven ability to inspire staff and cultivate a culture of inclusion and accountability.
  • Advanced strategic thinking skills to develop and implement transformative HR strategies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate vision and goals clearly.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to lead organizational culture initiatives and address interpersonal challenges.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to resolve conflicts and ensure solutions align with organizational values.
  • Experience in high-level data analysis to drive strategic decisions.

  • Experience with international HR practices and compliance.
