About the position

FreeFrom is a national organization founded in 2016 with a mission to dismantle the nexus between gender-based violence and financial insecurity. We envision a world where all survivors can build the wealth and financial security necessary to support their individual, intergenerational, and community healing, enabling them to thrive. Our work is rooted in respect for the wisdom of survivors, who know best what we need and how to innovate solutions to meet those needs. Gender-based violence is a systemic problem in our society, and we are severely lacking the infrastructure to address it. FreeFrom's work is to create that infrastructure. We are building scalable offerings for survivors, such as our cash assistance program, savings matching program, and social enterprise, which have reached over 30,000 people to date. We also work to create systemic change in the public and private sectors, from federal, state, and local governments to banks, employers, and credit card companies. Using data from our diverse community of survivors, we are developing systemic solutions that meet the nuanced needs of survivors existing at various intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, immigration status, and disability. At this exciting time, FreeFrom is hiring for a Vice President of Operations & People to join the senior management team. This role will be crucial in creating the systems and processes needed for continued growth and fostering an environment where all staff can thrive, both professionally and personally. The Vice President will set and manage a holistic and innovative vision for operations that is responsive to FreeFrom's people, programs, and priorities. They will ensure that day-to-day operations run smoothly, efficiently, and effectively. This position will oversee the development, implementation, and iteration of people (HR) policies, procedures, and processes through the lens of liberatory principles and human-centered design, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Vice President will partner with leadership and people managers to understand and anticipate staffing needs, implementing programs to attract, recruit, engage, and develop talent. They will set clear protocols for hiring, onboarding, and offboarding, inclusive of clear roles, responsibilities, and decision-making protocols for staff involved in each process. Additionally, they will administer fair and inclusive policies for compensation, including guidelines for raises and step promotions, and partner with the finance team to ensure FreeFrom offers competitive pay, benefits, and pathways to financial security. The role will also involve designing and implementing strategies for career pathways, professional development, and ongoing learning, training, mentoring, and networking opportunities, facilitating organizational-wide learning in areas related to equity and justice. The Vice President will implement an annual performance management and goal-setting process, ensuring a cadence for staff to safely provide and receive feedback throughout the year. They will be accessible to staff at all levels and serve as the escalation point for addressing employee relations issues, guiding and coaching others to have productive, difficult conversations, ensuring staff feel heard and respected. This role will supervise, coach, and mentor an Operations Manager, providing support to drive high levels of job satisfaction and performance. The Vice President will optimize the usage of technology to streamline workflows and automate processes through various tools, including Trinet HRIS, Salesforce CRM, data security, and project management, working with external consultants as needed. They will formalize data security and data management policies and procedures, ensuring all relevant staff are trained to implement any practices put in place. In addition, the Vice President will oversee day-to-day business operations, including insurance, warehouse space, business licenses, and permits. They will analyze and evaluate operational data and metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to drive efficiency and effectiveness. In partnership with the senior management team, they will engage in strategic decision-making, short and long-term strategic planning, goal creation and setting, and prioritization of initiatives. The Vice President will participate in the annual budgeting process, ensuring the process is transparent and increases the financial literacy of all staff involved. They will serve as the point person for in-person staff programming, trainings, collective learning, and culture-building activities, co-designing processes that reflect the needs of the entire organization and holding space for meaningful staff engagement and input on major decisions. Above all, they will lead by example to set the organizational cultural tone and ensure that practices maintaining the culture are embedded in the organization.
