About the position

The Vice President of Pharmacy Operations is a pivotal role within the health system, responsible for overseeing both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Patient Services and is tasked with the development, communication, and implementation of the pharmacy operations mission, vision, and goals. The Vice President will provide strategic leadership across multiple sites, ensuring that pharmacy operations align with patient-centered care and contribute to a high-quality patient experience. In this role, the Vice President will lead clinical pharmacy programs, including the 340(b) program and retail pharmacy activities throughout the health system. Responsibilities include managing inpatient and outpatient drug distribution, ensuring medication use quality and safety, maintaining regulatory compliance, overseeing drug procurement, and monitoring financial performance. The Vice President will collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to execute policy and formulary decisions, develop systems for optimal therapeutic drug utilization, and anticipate and manage new drug costs and supply chain shortages. The incorporation of new technologies to enhance operational performance will also be a key focus of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee health system pharmacy operations for both inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Develop, communicate, and implement pharmacy operations mission, vision, and goals.
  • Provide strategic leadership to pharmacy operations across multiple sites.
  • Lead clinical pharmacy programs, including 340(b) and retail pharmacy activities.
  • Manage inpatient and outpatient drug distribution and ensure medication use quality and safety.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and oversee drug procurement.
  • Monitor financial performance and manage budgets and P&L oversight.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer on policy and formulary decisions.
  • Develop systems for optimal therapeutic drug utilization.
  • Anticipate and manage new drug costs and supply chain shortages.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive hospital pharmacy leadership experience.
  • Experience in the entire continuum of care (inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, regulatory) is desirable.
  • 5+ years of experience managing budgets and P&L oversight.
  • 3+ years of experience within Change Management/Process Standardization.
  • Significant experience in 340(b) program management.
