About the position

The Vice President of Purchasing is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the purchasing function within the company, ensuring customer satisfaction, managing working capital through effective inventory management, and leading the purchasing department. This role involves hiring, training, and coaching staff, as well as developing relationships with suppliers to enhance the company's financial position and operational efficiency. The position is part of the senior leadership team and requires a strategic approach to improve purchasing processes and strategies in the food distribution industry.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of the purchasing function for the business.
• Ensure customer service and satisfaction are prioritized.
• Oversee inventory management to optimize working capital and cash flow.
• Hire, train, coach, and counsel staff members in the purchasing department.
• Develop relationships with suppliers to drive efficiencies and brand growth.
• Interact with customers and vendors to address inquiries in a timely manner.
• Establish and maintain standards for customer service within the department.
• Continuously improve processes and procedures for the purchasing department.
• Enhance purchasing strategies based on industry knowledge.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and procurement teams to create solutions for the business.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
• 7 - 10 years of experience in procurement and business supervision.
• Proven track record of success and increased responsibility in purchasing.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's Degree or MBA.
• 10+ years of leadership experience in the food industry.
• Accredited certifications in food industry and procurement initiatives.
