About the position

The Vice President, People Operations (VPO) at the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce (SMCC) is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the organization's human resources strategies and operations. The VPO will lead a team, contribute to strategic planning, and implement people strategies that align with SMCC's growth objectives. This position plays a crucial role in fostering a positive workplace culture, enhancing employee engagement, and ensuring the organization meets its operational goals while championing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the People Operations team and oversee HR strategies and operations.
  • Collaborate with the Chief of Staff and Senior Leadership Team on strategic and operational planning.
  • Develop and implement People strategies aligned with organizational growth objectives.
  • Support the achievement of performance metrics and identify efficiency opportunities.
  • Serve as a thought leader and advisor on organization development, performance, and employee relations.
  • Establish systems and structures to support the strategic direction of the organization and its affiliates.
  • Facilitate a positive and productive workplace culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; master's degree in human resources or related field preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive HR experience across multiple People functions, including Organizational Development and Change Management.
  • 7+ years of executive HR leadership experience supervising and developing seasoned staff.
  • SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Proven strategic planning and budgeting experience.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to create win-win strategies.
  • Experience building and scaling teams and systems.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Experience working with non-profit organizations.
  • Experience building and deploying training and development strategies and programs.
  • Proven track record of successfully navigating complex employee relations situations.
