About the position

The role is situated within the Broker Dealer Regulatory Reporting Department, which plays a crucial role in ensuring the capital adequacy of all of Citi's US broker dealers on a moment-to-moment basis. This department is tasked with the accurate preparation and filing of the monthly FOCUS reports for each broker dealer, ensuring compliance with the customer protection rule, particularly for the primary broker dealer, Citigroup Global Markets Inc. Additionally, the department is responsible for providing information and coordinating requests for internal and external audits, as well as regulatory examinations and inquiries from entities such as FINRA, SEC, and CME regarding the US broker dealers. The responsibilities of this role include ensuring compliance with SEC Rules 15c3-1 (Net Capital) and 15c3-3 (Customer Reserve Computation). The position involves assisting with the preparation of the monthly Focus report and daily net capital estimates, participating in the month-end balance sheet close, and assisting with the preparation of the customer reserve computation. Furthermore, the role includes assisting with SEC & FINRA supplemental financial reporting and acting as a liaison with examiners and auditors during examinations and audits. The position also requires reviewing new business proposals and identifying opportunities to improve the department's processes. In addition to these responsibilities, the role supports the management and control of data flows to and within Finance applications to ensure the integrity and completeness of data. This includes preparing and recording financial transactions for legal vehicle and regulatory reporting purposes, updating the general ledger, and preparing consolidated financial statements in accordance with management reporting requirements. The role also encompasses specialized accounting tasks such as equity compensation, securitization, payroll, and investment accounting. The individual will provide advice on directional strategy by analyzing subject matter and its application in their job and the business, acting as a technical expert and advisor on significant business and product decisions. The position requires a focus on the implementation of policies and procedures, partnering with key stakeholders across multiple locations, and ensuring essential procedures are followed while contributing to defining standards.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and examining key controls for accounting processes across multiple processes being handled.

  • Partnering with key stakeholders including legal entity managers and communicating progress on assigned process completion.
  • Identifying and appropriately highlighting/escalating potential issues relating to accounts with stakeholders and working with them for resolution.
  • Applying in-depth understanding of concepts and procedures within own area and advanced knowledge of other areas to resolve issues that impact beyond own area.
  • Demonstrating an advanced understanding of how multiple processes collectively integrate to contribute to achieving business goals.
  • Directly impacting leadership in multiple processes through responsibility for delivery of end results leading to business solutions.
  • Providing assurance and partnering with the audit team to monitor controls and accuracy of accounting.

Requirements

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) / Master in Business Administration (MBA) / Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent combination of education.
  • 6-10 years of experience in accounting management with commensurate stakeholder management experience.
  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred.
