About the position

The Vice President of Research Operations at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) is a strategic leadership role focused on transforming the research landscape. This position involves overseeing the management of research activities, grants, and contracts administration, while ensuring compliance and operational efficiency across DHMC and its affiliated institutions. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance research practices and drive innovation in clinical trials.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Chief Research Officer (CRO), clinical chairs, and center directors to establish leadership and reporting structures that support the research mission.
  • Oversee all aspects of research operations, including Pre-Award, Post Award, Regulatory Compliance, Clinical Operations Support, Research Finance, and Quality Assurance.
  • Work with the CRO to improve patient access to clinical trials and drive study start-up initiatives.
  • Lead efforts in high-impact research areas and manage complex center grants.
  • Ensure effective use and integration of existing technologies in support of research activities.
  • Mentor and guide research unit leaders to foster a high-performance, collaborative culture.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations for clinical trial operations.
  • Develop and implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure financial and academic returns on investment.
  • Establish regular communication channels to engage stakeholders in the research community.

Requirements

  • An advanced degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) with significant experience in research operations and administration.
  • Proven track record in a senior leadership role managing complex research programs and navigating grant and contract administration.
  • Strong understanding of research regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to engage a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to drive innovation and improve processes.
