About the position

The Vice President of Revenue Accounting & Compliance at Authentic is a pivotal leadership role that reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Finance Operations. This position is designed for a dynamic leader who will oversee and manage the company's royalty revenue portfolio, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and optimizing revenue operations. The role involves a comprehensive approach to managing the accounting, reporting, and compliance aspects of a diverse portfolio of global licensing partners. The Vice President will be instrumental in driving process simplification and optimization, providing operational decision-making support to leadership, and fostering collaboration across various business units. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the accounting team delivers accurate and timely financial reporting, adhering to US GAAP standards. You will lead the oversight of the royalty contract review process, manage the reporting of royalty revenues on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, and analyze reconciliation reports from licensees. Your leadership will extend to overseeing the recognition and reconciliation of deferred revenue and unbilled royalties, preparing analyses that compare actual revenues to budgeted figures, and investigating any variances. Additionally, you will maintain strong communication with the brand development team, legal department, and licensees to ensure compliance and operational efficiency. Your proactive approach will help identify optimization opportunities within the revenue operations process, and you will be responsible for developing best practices that align with company requirements. This role also includes talent recruitment and development strategies for the Revenue and Compliance team, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to meet the demands of the business. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging team members to leave processes better than they found them, and develop strong relationships with business leaders across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for all activities within revenue accounting and compliance.
  • Oversee the royalty contract review process and ensure adherence to US GAAP for revenue recognition.
  • Manage weekly, monthly, and quarterly royalty revenue reporting to management and operations teams, utilizing KPIs.
  • Analyze and oversee reconciliation of quarterly reports from licensees, ensuring timely and accurate information.
  • Lead the recognition and reconciliation of deferred revenue and unbilled royalties.
  • Prepare and present analyses comparing actual royalty revenues to budget, investigating variances and trends.
  • Oversee licensee reporting and compliance, addressing operational and licensee opportunities.
  • Maintain communication with the brand development team, legal department, and licensees regarding operations and reporting.
  • Provide financial advice by studying operational issues and developing recommendations for policy improvements.
  • Identify optimization opportunities and work with stakeholders to enhance processes.
  • Standardize licensee onboarding processes and develop best practices for business development and operations teams.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements.
  • Recruit and develop talent for the Revenue and Compliance team, including hiring and performance management.
  • Plan, organize, lead, and control group activities, including projects and personnel management.
  • Foster an environment of optimization and promote continuous improvement practices.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with business leaders within the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA and public accounting experience is a plus.
  • Minimum 15 years of overall experience in revenue and accounting-related positions.
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience is preferred.
  • Effective at leading and influencing across all levels of seniority.
  • Ability to think creatively and identify innovative solutions.
  • Proven experience in process improvement and driving optimization and efficiency.
  • Working experience in large ERP solutions, preferably NetSuite.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify opportunities quickly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and coordination skills across the organization.
  • Strong data analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly proactive with the ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to prepare reports accurately and concisely.
