About the position

The Victim Advocate position within the Colorado Bureau of Investigation is designed to provide comprehensive support and services to victims of identity theft, fraud, and related crimes. The role focuses on assisting victims in regaining their emotional well-being, understanding the criminal justice process, and accessing necessary resources. The advocate will work collaboratively with law enforcement and community-based programs to ensure victims receive the advocacy and support they need.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct assistance, support, advocacy, and resources to victims of identity theft and fraud.
  • Assesses the needs of victims and develops plans to address those needs, providing appropriate advocacy and referrals.
  • Collaborates with internal and external agencies to support victims, ensuring they are informed of their rights under the Colorado Victim Rights Amendment.
  • Participates in community education presentations and professional training events.
  • Collects statistical data and produces reports through the Unit's case management system.

Requirements

  • Five years of relevant experience in a victim advocate or social services specialist position.
  • A combination of related education and/or relevant experience as a victim advocate or social services specialist, equal to five years.

  • Understanding of the nature and specifics of identity theft and fraud.
  • Thorough understanding of the victim advocate's role beyond the Victim Crime Act.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to present to small and large groups of stakeholders.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
