About the position

The Victim Advocate position focuses on providing comprehensive support and services to victims of identity theft, fraud, and related crimes. This role is integral to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation's Fraud Investigators Unit, where the advocate will assist victims in regaining their emotional well-being, understanding the criminal justice process, and accessing necessary resources. The position involves direct interaction with victims, collaboration with law enforcement and community programs, and participation in community education and training initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct assistance, support, advocacy, and resources to victims of identity theft and fraud.
• Assess the needs of victims and develop plans to address those needs, providing advocacy and referrals as appropriate.
• Collaborate with victim assistance programs, law enforcement, and community organizations to support victims.
• Participate in community education presentations and professional training.
• Collect statistical data and produce reports through the Unit's case management system.

Requirements

• Five years of relevant experience in a victim advocate or social services specialist position.
• A combination of related education and/or relevant experience as a victim advocate or social services specialist, equal to five years.
• Demonstrated compassion and care for victims of identity theft.
• Understanding of the nature of identity theft and fraud.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Bilingual in Spanish.
• Ability to present to small and large groups of stakeholders.
• Understanding of the victims' needs in identity theft and fraud cases.
