About the position

The Victim Advocate (SHARP)(SAR WF) position at the Anniston Army Depot serves as a critical support role for Army Brigades, focusing on providing advocacy and assistance to victims of sexual assault and harassment. The advocate conducts assessments, develops action plans, and ensures that victims receive necessary guidance and emotional support throughout various procedures. This role requires availability for off-duty support, including a 24-hour rotation for advocacy services.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments with clients to determine required needs and evaluate safety and levels of risk.
  • Assess the urgency of cases and develop a plan for assistance.
  • Develop and implement an appropriate plan of action in crisis situations.
  • Ensure victims of sexual assault receive all needed guidance and emotional support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures.
  • Accompany victims at their request and provide support in securing medical treatment for injuries.
  • Provide off-duty hour support, including a 24-hour rotation for advocacy services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Social Work or Psychology.
  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in the behavioral or social sciences.
  • Four years of appropriate experience demonstrating knowledge of behavioral or social sciences.
  • One year of specialized experience providing professional advocacy services to victims or survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment.
  • Experience conducting assessments with clients to evaluate needs, risks, and/or safety.
  • Experience referring clients to appropriate services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Five years or more providing SH/SA advocacy services in the military or private sector.
