About the position

The Victim Advocate position is a full-time role focused on providing direct services to victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence, as well as other forms of interpersonal violence. The advocate will offer counseling, advocacy, and support services, ensuring a trauma-informed care environment. This role requires collaboration with program staff and maintaining a safe and empowering atmosphere for clients. The position involves working independently and directly with clients, providing essential services such as crisis counseling, hotline support, and legal advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual crisis counseling, follow-up counseling, and group counseling.
  • Offer information and referrals to clients.
  • Support clients in navigating the criminal justice system through advocacy.
  • Provide emergency financial assistance and legal advocacy as needed.
  • Deliver mobile services and accompaniment for off-site counseling and advocacy.
  • Maintain accurate records and meet deadlines for documentation.
  • Engage in systems advocacy as required.
  • Attend staff meetings and collaborate with team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of related experience in a human service field, college education, or previous training.
  • ARCC counselor/advocate training.
  • Strong organizational skills including management, office skills, and record keeping.
  • Effective writing and speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of and concern for victim issues.
  • Basic computer skills and required clearances.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of focus and task orientation.
  • Non-judgmental and open personal qualities with a clear sense of boundaries.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain positive professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of community resources for high-risk populations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working one-on-one with adults and at-risk youth.
