About the position

The Victim Advocate position at Newark Community Street Team (NCST) is designed to support the Director of Victim Services in leading the Newark HEAL Initiative. The role focuses on providing immediate assistance to victims of crime, managing case files, and advocating for necessary services and resources. The advocate will engage with at-risk individuals, participate in community events, and uphold the mission of NCST to reduce crime and promote public trust in justice.

Responsibilities

  • Accompany High Risk Interventionist in mediation and intervention efforts to provide immediate assistance to victims.
  • Organize, attend, and participate in special events and promotions advocating healing and wellness alternatives.
  • Complete intakes, create service plans, and review case progress with the Project Director to determine case closure.
  • Provide supportive services for no less than 45 at-risk/high-risk mentees per year.
  • Participate, lead, and support NCST community walks once a week.
  • Attend all staff meetings, Public Safety Round Table, and NCST sanctioned events.
  • Complete service plan/service provision for mentees.
  • Monitor each mentee's case file advocating for needed services and entitlements; obtain additional resources; intervene in crisis; provide personal support.
  • Maintain mentee records by reviewing case notes; log events and progress.
  • Communicate mentees' progress by conducting weekly interdisciplinary meetings and evaluations; disseminate results and obstacles to the therapeutic team and family; identify treatment influences.
  • Assist victims in completing Victim of Crime Compensation applications and follow up on supporting documents timely.
  • Provide support, services, and resources to victims of crime.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in a relevant field.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • Must possess a driver's license.
