About the position

The Victim Advocate position at Magellan Health Services is dedicated to providing comprehensive support and advocacy for victims of domestic violence under the Army's Family Advocacy Program (FAP). This role involves crisis intervention, emotional support, and assistance in navigating community resources, ensuring that victims receive the necessary care and treatment to restore their well-being. The advocate works closely with victims, military personnel, and community resources to facilitate a coordinated response to domestic abuse, providing services 24/7 to assist Army Families and Soldiers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention and comprehensive services to victims of domestic abuse.
  • Assist victims in securing protective orders, emergency food, and shelter.
  • Conduct initial screenings and risk assessments for victims of domestic abuse.
  • Develop safety plans and provide emotional support to victims.
  • Liaise with the Family Advocacy Program Manager to ensure comprehensive victim services.
  • Educate Soldiers and Family members about domestic abuse through training programs.
  • Assist victims in navigating the system to obtain desired services.
  • Ensure timely contact with victims in crisis situations.
  • Provide information on victim rights and available resources.
  • Maintain ongoing case management and data entry for victim cases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working with victims of domestic abuse or in victim advocacy services.
  • Knowledge of family violence dynamics, safety planning, and risk assessments.
  • Ability to intervene in crisis situations with sound judgment and ethical practice.
  • Demonstrated understanding and empathy for victims of domestic abuse.
  • Ability to work independently and develop intervention plans.
  • Effective communication skills to work with diverse populations.
  • Valid, unrestricted motor vehicle license and transportation for non-emergent situations.
