About the position

The Video Editor for Reading Universe will play a crucial role in the development of a national project aimed at providing comprehensive professional development resources for educators teaching reading and writing. This initiative, a collaboration between WETA, the Barksdale Reading Institute, and First Book, seeks to create a state-of-the-art online platform that is rich in video content and research-based methodologies. The project has already launched its prototype site and has produced over 100 videos, which are available on the Reading Universe YouTube channel. The Video Editor will be responsible for editing a variety of video content, including in-classroom footage, interviews with educators and researchers, and multimedia discussions on significant educational topics. The role requires a strong background in video editing, storytelling, and a passion for creating engaging content that resonates with teachers and educational professionals. As a Video Editor, you will work closely with producers, directors, and other team members to ensure that the final products align with the editorial vision and brand standards of Reading Universe. You will manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that all deadlines are met while maintaining high production values. The ideal candidate will have a thorough mastery of Adobe Premiere Pro and AfterEffects, along with a keen eye for detail and a collaborative spirit. This position is based in Arlington, VA, and requires on-site work 2-3 days a week, with flexibility for remote work as needed. The successful candidate will contribute to a project that aims to enhance the quality of education for teachers and students across the nation.

Responsibilities

• Edit and assemble raw footage to create cohesive and engaging video content that aligns with the editorial vision and brand standards.
• Provide creative input and direction to enhance the narrative and visual appeal of video projects.
• Oversee multiple editing projects from start to finish, managing timelines and ensuring deadlines are met.
• Use Adobe Premiere Pro to create polished final videos with high production values and stay updated on industry trends.
• Conduct thorough quality checks to ensure videos meet technical specifications and adhere to branding guidelines.
• Collaborate with colleagues and freelancers to ensure seamless integration of all elements into the final product.
• Address and resolve any technical or creative issues that arise during the editing process.

Requirements

• Minimum of three to five years of professional video editing experience, with a strong reel demonstrating a range of editing styles and techniques.
• Bachelor's degree in Film Production, Media Studies, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
• Thorough mastery of Adobe Premiere Pro, including sound design, graphics, and color correction.
• Solid AfterEffects skills and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite beyond Premiere Pro.
• Solid understanding of video production workflows, with experience publishing to the web a plus.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working directly with subject matter experts is a plus.
• Proficiency in graphic design for video, simple animation, and sound design.
