About the position

The New York Times Cooking is seeking a video journalist to create engaging cooking videos for both on-platform and off-platform audiences. This role involves producing a variety of cooking content, including short-form recipe videos and hosted cooking demonstrations, aimed at enhancing the NYT Cooking product and expanding its reach on platforms like YouTube. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in digital video production, a passion for food, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Shoot and edit single- and multi-camera video in various settings including studios, restaurant kitchens, and remotely.
  • Pitch and develop ideas for NYT Cooking video content.
  • Cast and coordinate logistics between in-house production and freelancers.
  • Publish videos in NYT Cooking's content management systems.
  • Generate and execute ideas for highly watchable videos in varying lengths and formats.
  • Collaborate with writers, editors, food stylists, prop stylists, chefs, and others to create high-quality videos.
  • Identify recipes and ideas that can be transformed into engaging videos.
  • Provide constructive feedback on videos created by other producers during the editing process.
  • Support and uphold the value of journalistic independence and the mission of The New York Times.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in digital video production.
  • Proficient in editing with Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Ability to direct, produce, shoot, light, and edit video content.
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on testing and iterating content for audience engagement.
  • Well-versed in social and digital food media, with awareness of competitors and new tools.
