About the position

The Video Journalist at Telemundo T39 in Dallas/Fort Worth is responsible for creating original news content for a leading Spanish-speaking television station. This role involves shooting, writing, editing news stories, and engaging with the community to develop story leads. The position requires bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, and the ability to work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Shooting, writing, creating, and editing original news stories.
  • Gathering information for news stories using beat sources, contacts, and leads.
  • Working directly with the VP of News, Executive Producer, and News Producer on story ideas and development.
  • Presenting completed stories that are accurate, journalistically sound, fair, and balanced.
  • Coordinating, organizing, conducting, and video-recording interviews in both English and Spanish.
  • Reporting live during newscasts and breaking news as needed, either in studio or out in the field.
  • Operating a Dejero live unit, setting up and shooting live shots.
  • Producing original content for assigned newscasts, streaming services, digital, and social media.
  • Developing ongoing 'sweeps' style stories.
  • Strategically engaging in social media.
  • Backing up news anchor when needed.
  • Representing Telemundo in community-related events.
  • Building relationships with the community and contacts for developing story leads.

Requirements

  • BA or BS in Journalism or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in Spanish market broadcast television.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required both written and verbal.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry camera equipment ranging from 15 lbs. to 50 lbs.
