About the position

The Video Producer at the American Psychological Association (APA) is responsible for overseeing the development and production of video titles, ensuring they meet quality standards and adhere to schedules and budgets. This role involves supervising various stakeholders, including vendors and guest experts, and providing direction on video content while maintaining ethical standards. The Video Producer will also collaborate with the Director of APA Videos to co-develop diverse video products.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and production of APA Video titles, ensuring adherence to quality standards, schedules, and budgets.
  • Review and give final sign-off on all Video Series titles before release.
  • Supervise vendors, contractors, partnering institutions, producers, and psychologists/members in the creation of video products.
  • Provide direction on topics covered in videos, resolving issues involving ethics and confidentiality.
  • Evaluate and advise on video productions, ensuring they align with APA's standards.
  • Co-develop diverse video products with the Director, APA Videos.
  • Maintain accurate financial records of all video productions and assist in budget preparation.
  • Represent APA to guest experts in the video series and maintain collegial relationships with them.
  • Work with staff and guest experts to ensure marketing and sales partners have the necessary information to represent video products accurately.
  • Cultivate sensitivity to and knowledge of psychological subject matter for video creation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in liberal arts required; Bachelor's degree in English, psychology, or social science preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in a publishing environment, preferably associated with video media production.
  • Basic knowledge of general publishing procedures.
  • Strong written language skills and knowledge of editing/proofreading preferred.
  • Ability to quickly learn about psychology and develop comfort with psychological topics.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills for effective interaction with various stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and ability to take on new tasks and track numerous projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with video capture/editing software, such as Camtasia.
  • Knowledge of title management database principles, preferably FireBrand.
