About the position

The City of Midland is looking for a skilled Videographer and Digital Photographer to create high-quality visual content for various city projects and initiatives. This role involves capturing and editing video footage and photographs to support city communication efforts, collaborating with different departments, and managing video and photography equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Capture and edit video footage and digital photographs to support city communication efforts, including events, programs, and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with city departments to understand their visual content needs and objectives.
  • Manage and maintain video and photography equipment.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to enhance the quality and impact of visual content.
  • Serve as the city's official digital photographer with provided equipment.
  • Produce original video content for web and social media.
  • Serve as a secondary city videographer for cinematic projects.
  • Create content for events and department projects.
  • Ensure recording of all City Council Meetings via Swagit video system.
  • Produce content for video information videoboards and TV within City Hall and other City Facilities.
  • Produce audio recordings for the City.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Serve as back-up to the Strategic Communications Officer, answering phone calls from media and creating press releases.
  • Actively participate in strategic and task-specific communication planning.
  • Be on call some weekends on a rotating schedule.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition, and After Effects.
  • Understanding of audio and video codecs; green screen/rotoscoping.
  • Proficiency using video, audio, lighting, and photography equipment.
  • Ability to write, edit, and/or manipulate HTML/HTML 5, PHP, and JavaScript.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in video pre-production, concept, scripting, post-production, and motion graphics.
  • Ability to work in Windows/OSX and Linux based systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Texas.
  • FAA licensure to operate a drone and drone videography experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in mass media, marketing, broadcasting, communications, journalism, graphic design, or a related field required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Willingness to become licensed by the FAA to operate a drone if not already licensed.
