About the position

Austin PBS is seeking an experienced news videographer and editor to support the station's news and public affairs content. The role involves shooting and editing video content, collaborating with reporters and producers, and ensuring high standards of journalistic integrity and production quality. The ideal candidate will be a skilled visual storyteller with a strong background in journalism, capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Act as videographer using broadcast and cinema-style cameras.
  • Edit news stories and compile episodes under supervision.
  • Collaborate with reporters and producers to determine cinematographic look and feel.
  • Edit and provide production support including ingesting and logging footage, syncing video and audio tracks, executing rough and final cuts.
  • Assist with limited pre-production work including logistics of location shooting and scheduling.
  • Be responsible for archiving and maintaining an organized media workflow.
  • Create and format content for various social media platforms.
  • Instruct and collaborate with crew in the field or studio.
  • Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Participate in training and mentoring production staff or interns.
  • Partner with Engineers on troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Attend and actively participate in station, department, and show production meetings.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working in a related field.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop) in a Windows environment.
  • Lighting experience preferred.
  • Certificate or Degree in TV production or related field preferred.
  • Canon XF and C series camera experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of television journalism principles and ethics.
  • Experience with news, documentary, and/or long form storytelling.
  • Knowledge of television production concepts, principles, methodology, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of professional video production and post-production procedures in a non-linear environment.
  • Creative decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace.
  • Understanding of public media mission and values.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours (nights, weekends) and overtime as necessary.
  • Ability to lift or carry equipment up to 30 lbs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in television, music, and/or digital production.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas accurately to others.
