About the position

WHIO TV Dayton, the #1 CBS affiliate in the Nation, is seeking a talented Videographer/Editor to join our dynamic team. This position is ideal for a visual storyteller who is adept at both handheld and tripod shooting, and who possesses a creative flair for composition and sound. The successful candidate will be responsible for covering day-to-day general and spot news assignments, showcasing their ability to produce visually compelling and memorable stories under tight deadlines. The role requires a self-motivated individual with excellent organizational skills, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude. Flexibility is key, as the position demands availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. As a Videographer/Editor, you will operate various news gathering equipment, including live equipment such as microwave/satellite trucks and LiveU backpacks, as well as professional news video cameras. You will be tasked with editing stories daily, collaborating closely with reporters in the field to create engaging live shots and conducting interviews as needed. The role also involves monitoring scanners for spot news, responding promptly to breaking news situations, and adapting to last-minute changes with professionalism. In addition to traditional news coverage, you will be responsible for creating digital content, editing social media videos, and posting them to various platforms. Your contributions to editorial meetings will be valued, as you will bring creative story ideas to the table. Regular travel is expected, primarily locally, but may also include national assignments. You will work assigned shifts and may need to fill in for absent colleagues, demonstrating your commitment to teamwork and flexibility in scheduling. Maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the station is essential, as is performing news operations duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various news gathering equipment, including live equipment and professional news video cameras.
  • Edit stories daily under tight deadlines.
  • Collaborate with reporters in the field to create visually creative and memorable stories.
  • Conduct interviews solo for broadcast as needed.
  • Monitor scanners for spot news and respond promptly when necessary.
  • Handle breaking news situations and adapt to last-minute changes professionally.
  • Create digital content and edit social media videos for posting.
  • Contribute story ideas during editorial meetings and bring creative energy to the team.
  • Travel regularly, primarily locally, but may also include national travel.
  • Work assigned shifts and fill in for absent co-workers as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of TV news photography and editing experience required.
  • Proficient with current broadcast cameras and non-linear editing software.
  • Experience with LIVE equipment including live trucks and live backpacks.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with reporters.
  • Reliable and able to work additional hours and travel as required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Good news judgment and understanding of daily news content.
  • Thorough understanding of journalistic ethics and libel laws.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, walk long distances, and lift/carry 25 to 50 lbs.
