About the position

WHIO TV Dayton is seeking a Videographer/Editor who is a creative visual storyteller capable of operating various news gathering equipment and editing stories under tight deadlines. The role involves covering day-to-day general and spot news assignments, working closely with reporters, and creating engaging digital content. The ideal candidate should be organized, self-motivated, and possess excellent people skills, with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various news gathering equipment, including live equipment and professional news video cameras.
  • Edit stories daily under tight deadlines.
  • Work with reporters in the field to create visually creative and memorable stories, including conducting solo interviews for broadcast.
  • Monitor scanners, call in spot news, and respond to spot news requests.
  • Handle crisis situations and breaking news professionally, adapting to last-minute changes.
  • Create digital content, edit social videos, and post to social media.
  • Prepare for editorial meetings and contribute story ideas, bringing creative energy to the team.
  • Travel regularly, often locally, and occasionally nationally.
  • Work assigned shifts and fill in for absent co-workers as needed, including alternate schedules for breaking news coverage.
  • Represent the station and news department professionally, maintaining a neat appearance.
  • Perform news operations duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of TV news photography and editing experience required.
  • Proficient with current broadcast cameras, non-linear editing, and live equipment including live trucks and backpacks.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with reporters.
  • Reliable and able to work additional hours and travel as required.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Good news judgment and understanding of daily news content, journalistic ethics, and libel laws.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, walk long distances, and lift/carry 25 to 50 lbs.

  • Knowledge of Avid/Adobe After Effects
