About the position

The Videographer/Editor at Suffolk University is responsible for creating compelling visual content that supports the university's strategic vision and brand. This role involves producing a variety of videos, from short news pieces to longer-form content, and requires collaboration with a content team to integrate video with graphic design, photography, and written content. The position demands creativity, resourcefulness, and a strong understanding of video production processes, from pre-production planning to post-production editing.

Responsibilities

  • Produce a variety of videos, including short news pieces and longer-form content, to support the university's mission and brand.
  • Partner with the Director of Multimedia Content/Producer to oversee video pre-production processes, including project outlines, shooting scripts, and production schedules.
  • Execute as videographer, managing video, audio, and lighting equipment during on-location shoots and conducting interviews.
  • Handle all aspects of post-production, including video and sound editing, to create impactful visual stories.
  • Collaborate with designers, writers, and editors to create graphical elements and copy that align with the university's brand.
  • Ensure videos are accessible to a diverse audience through captioning and other means.
  • Prepare videos for various multimedia formats and digital distribution channels.
  • Manage and maintain video archives and file transfer platforms.
  • Create and manage digital content storage solutions.
  • Oversee a team of student producers/videographers in capturing and editing digital content.
  • Stay updated on video trends and emerging technologies to enhance production workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in film, videography, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional videography, filmmaking, and editing experience.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining professional-level video, lighting, and audio equipment.
  • Understanding of videography principles, production processes, and motion graphics design.
  • Technical experience with video creation/editing software such as Final Cut Pro, AVID, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Media Encoder.
  • Knowledge of copyright, image permissions, and fair use protocols for music and video resources.
  • Ability to organize and manage large amounts of media effectively.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Effective communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with social media video production.
  • Familiarity with digital content management systems.
