About the position

The Videographer position at the University of Michigan is a full-time role within the Michigan Dining marketing team, responsible for enhancing the brand of Michigan Dining, which encompasses nineteen on-campus cafes and markets, nine residential dining halls, and various catering services. The successful candidate will report directly to the Michigan Dining Marketing Manager and will be tasked with producing and composing visual storytelling elements that resonate with the community and promote the dining services offered on campus. This role requires a blend of creativity and technical skills, as the videographer will be involved in all aspects of video production, from planning and shooting to editing and publishing content across various digital platforms. The position is hybrid, requiring onsite work in Ann Arbor, with some evening and weekend hours as necessary. The videographer will collaborate closely with the marketing team and dining leadership to create engaging multimedia content for social media channels, newsletters, and websites. This includes managing a library of food photography for mobile and kiosk ordering platforms and ensuring visual consistency and quality control across all digital platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and the Michigan Dining website. Additionally, the videographer will lead the creative process, selecting graphics, music, and sound effects that align with the Michigan Dining and University of Michigan brand. They will also direct and train student interns, ensuring that design standards are maintained and that client communication needs are met. The role requires a proactive approach to generating story leads and identifying potential influencers or brand ambassadors within the community, ultimately enhancing the Michigan Dining brand through innovative visual elements.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the marketing team and dining leadership to produce and compose visual storytelling elements for Michigan Dining.
  • Film, edit, and publish creative and engaging videos and other multimedia content for distribution across social media channels, newsletters, and websites.
  • Build relationships with students and staff to generate story leads and identify potential influencers or brand ambassadors.
  • Shoot and manage the library of food photography for the mobile and kiosk ordering platform for campus retail locations.
  • Lead the creative process, including graphic selection, music, and sound effects that align with the Michigan Dining and University of Michigan brand.
  • Manage visual consistency, innovation, and quality control across multiple digital platforms.
  • Direct and train student interns to maintain design standards and support video production projects.
  • Propose ideas to enhance the Michigan Dining brand through visual elements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in videography, digital media, journalism, broadcasting, or a similar field, or certification in broadcast media arts.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in videography, digital media, journalism, marketing, social media, or a related field.
  • Experience with video production techniques, including camera operation, lighting, and sound recording.
  • Proficiency in shooting videos with a phone and using professional video equipment, including DSLRs or camcorders.
  • Understanding of animation, storytelling, and character development techniques.
