About the position

The Videographer position at Indiana University School of Medicine involves identifying and executing a variety of videography projects that cater to marketing and communications needs. The videographer will select and adjust subjects, equipment, and lighting to achieve the desired artistic effects. This position is crucial in capturing and editing video footage using various equipment and software, including Adobe Creative Suite, while ensuring that the final product meets the formatting specifications of different marketing and communications projects, audiences, and platforms. In addition to capturing and editing video, the videographer will regularly consult with marketing and communications staff and other key stakeholders to determine project needs and ensure that video elements align with the overall strategy and objectives. The role also includes maintaining filming equipment, such as editing lab equipment, lenses, lights, and cameras, and performing both basic and complex equipment repairs. The videographer may provide organizational training on videography methodology and strategy and may guide Videography Assistants or lower-level Videographers. The position requires a high degree of professionalism, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage time and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. The videographer must demonstrate a commitment to quality and possess flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements. This role is essential in supporting the mission of the Indiana University School of Medicine to teach, heal, and discover through effective visual storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Identify basic, complex, special, and/or urgent videography projects for marketing and communications needs.
  • Set timelines and determine desired video composition for projects.
  • Perform necessary interviews and/or research for video content.
  • Select and adjust subjects, equipment, and lighting to achieve desired artistic effects.
  • Capture and edit video footage using various equipment and software, including Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Adjust video content to meet formatting specifications for different audiences and platforms.
  • Consult regularly with marketing and communications staff and stakeholders to align video elements with strategy and objectives.
  • Maintain filming equipment, including editing lab equipment, lenses, lights, and cameras.
  • Perform basic and complex equipment repairs as needed.
  • Seek input from peers and stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of different videography aesthetics.
  • Provide organizational training on videography methodology and strategy as needed.
  • Guide Videography Assistants or lower-level Videographers in their tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in video production, art, or a related field.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in videography or video production.
  • Proficient communication skills.
