About the position

The Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) plays a crucial role in leveraging information technology to assist mid-size healthcare companies in achieving their business objectives. Reporting to the Chief Innovation Officer, the vCIO is expected to have a deep understanding of current information technologies and business expertise in the healthcare sector, with a proven track record in business transformation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain deep knowledge of the client's specific needs including applications, infrastructure, and clinical and administrative workflows.
  • Assist clients in developing, maintaining, and managing an IT budget that meets their operational and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain written strategic technology roadmaps that address the clients evolving needs, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Provide strategic direction to clients by leveraging technologies that enhance resident care, optimize staff workflows, and ensure compliance.
  • Advise clients on regulatory requirements and support compliance efforts through appropriate technology solutions.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies to offer innovative solutions that address sector-specific challenges.
  • Conduct IT risk management assessments, focusing on minimizing risks to EPHI data, operational continuity, and care quality.
  • Lead regular Executive Business Review meetings with C-level executives, administrators, and department heads to review IT strategy and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT consulting or prior experience as CIO in a specific industry vertical.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to communicate business benefits of technology investments.
  • Strong foundation in financial management with the ability to translate technology investments into financial terms.
  • Proven track record of maintaining C-level relationships as a trusted advisor.

Nice-to-haves

  • Good conceptual knowledge of IT infrastructure, clinical and administrative workflows, and software systems used in long-term care facilities.
  • Knowledgeable in healthcare compliance, regulations, and technology standards specific to healthcare.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into actionable business strategies.
  • Superior organization, leadership, and facilitation skills, particularly in a healthcare setting.
