As a Virtual Designer, you will be tasked with carrying out electrical design pre-construction tasks efficiently while adhering to company standards. You will apply your knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) to prepare constructible electrical drawings and identify any constructability issues that may arise. Additionally, you will maintain the project BIM execution plan, coordinate all BIM modeling in Revit, and ensure that you stay updated on trends in the BIM field. Your ability to translate 2D drawings into comprehensive 3D/4D models will be essential, as will your understanding of creating accurate fabrication drawings based on various contract prints. You will also be responsible for estimating VDC resources, budgets, and schedules for assigned projects, as well as developing documents and practices to optimize project efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out electrical design pre-construction tasks effectively and efficiently, while adhering to company standards.
  • Apply knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) to industrial electrical design by preparing constructible electrical drawings.
  • Identify constructability issues, missing information and notify the project team of these issues.
  • Maintain project BIM execution plan with project team.
  • Coordinate all BIM Modeling in Revit and maintain knowledge of trends in the BIM field.
  • Ability to translate 2D drawings and specs into a complete 3D/4D models.
  • Understand process and standards for creating fabrication drawings that are professional and accurate using architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical contract prints consistent with company and client standards.
  • Estimate and establish VDC resources, budget, and schedule for assigned project.
  • Develop documents and implement practices and standards to optimize efficiency of projects.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned by site management.

Requirements

  • Must have a basic understanding of electrical control systems.
  • Experience with electrical power from low voltage AC (120/208V) through medium voltage (15kV).
  • Experience with control/instrument voltage discrete and analog.
  • Good understanding of electrical safety regulations, and codes.
  • Experience with installing electrical distribution or controls. Automation experience would be beneficial.
  • Experience with REVIT and/or AutoCAD drafting software is beneficial.
  • Able to communicate clearly with clients and other Interstates team members through both verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to take on crew leader responsibilities- leading people, creating work for others.
  • Must possess the ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Able to prioritize work and deal with stress.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.)
  • Associates Degree (A.A., A.S.) from a two-year community college or technical college with an emphasis in Electrical Design and Construction, or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with REVIT and/or AutoCAD drafting software is beneficial.
  • Automation experience would be beneficial.
