About the position

At HonorHealth, we are looking for a Virtual Medical Assistant to join our team in Phoenix, Arizona. This role is integral to creating a multi-dimensional care experience for our patients. As a Virtual Medical Assistant, you will serve as a liaison between providers, facilities, pharmacies, insurance plans, support staff, patients, and others. Your primary responsibilities will include receiving, triaging, and responding to inbound requests through various channels, including phone calls and electronic messages. You will assist with virtual care activities under the direction of a provider, which includes gathering and documenting medical histories, managing medication refills, communicating test results, and providing patient education. In addition to these tasks, you will be responsible for maintaining provider schedules, preparing patients and charts for telehealth encounters, handling outpatient registration, scheduling appointments, and managing referrals to specialists. You will also oversee patient portal administration and the authorization of services, equipment, and medications. This position requires a strong commitment to providing appropriate care in accordance with organizational policies, government regulations, and best practices. You will be expected to identify and meet the needs of all customers while embodying the organization's core values of innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect, and empathy. The position is full-time, requiring 40 hours per week, with a schedule of either 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Initially, the role will be on-site for training purposes, which is expected to last approximately 90 days. After training, there may be options for hybrid or remote work based on performance and attendance. However, you must be onsite for mandatory in-person meetings and may need to travel occasionally to clinic locations for training and orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between providers, facilities, pharmacies, insurance plans, support staff, patients, and others.
  • Receive, triage, and respond to inbound requests via multiple channels including phone calls and electronic messages.
  • Assist with virtual care activities such as gathering/documenting medical history, medication refills, test result communication, and patient education under the direction of a provider.
  • Maintain provider schedules and prepare patients and charts for telehealth encounters.
  • Handle outpatient registration, appointment scheduling, referrals to specialists, and patient portal administration.
  • Authorize services, equipment, and medications as needed.
  • Follow up on inbound requests with outbound communication to relevant parties regarding patient care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Medical Assisting Diploma/Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant training program required.
  • 1 year of experience in a medical office setting required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Completion of an approved training program or successful passing of the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute.
