About the position

The Virtual RN position at BJC HealthCare is an innovative role designed to support patients through direct care activities while promoting a patient-centered approach. This position is part of a pilot program located at the Brentwood, MO office, with plans to relocate to the BJH campus in late 2024. The role is not a work-from-home position and requires individuals who are eager to contribute to a new way of delivering nursing care. The BJC RN Career Ladder is a unique feature of this role, empowering nurses to advance their careers while providing high-quality patient care. This ladder promotes professional development, leadership, collaboration, education, and service excellence, allowing nurses to work at the top of their license and progress in their careers. As nurses move up the ladder, they will receive a percentage increase in their pay that aligns with their new job responsibilities. In this role, the Virtual RN will provide direct patient care, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care within the established nursing standards. The RN will be responsible for educating patients and their families on managing illnesses or injuries, including post-treatment care and medication administration. The position also involves participating in activities that enhance patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, as well as engaging in professional development activities. The RN will develop, implement, and document individualized care plans in collaboration with the interprofessional team and the patient or caregiver, ensuring effective communication of the care plan throughout the continuum of care. Critical nursing skills will be utilized to assess and evaluate the physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs of patients, taking into account their preferences and barriers to involvement in care. This role is classified as safety-sensitive, requiring the ability to maintain a constant state of alertness and operate safely in all situations.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
  • Educates patients and their families on managing their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Engages in professional development activities.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patient, family, or caregiver.
  • Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • Current RN license
  • 2-5 years of experience as a floor nurse preferred
