About the position

The Virtual Server Administrator will manage and operate a virtualized Microsoft environment, ensuring the performance and reliability of virtual machines and infrastructure. This role requires an active secret clearance and involves daily operations, troubleshooting, and collaboration with internal and external customers to maintain and enhance the virtual server environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and operate a virtualized Microsoft environment.
  • Perform daily status checks of 6 Nutanix Clusters and complete reports with alerts or errors.
  • Develop and manage effective working relationships with internal and external customers using MITSC-E Virtual Machines and Remedy Ticketing systems.
  • Develop the physical Virtual Infrastructure design for transition from VMware to Nutanix Virtual Environment.
  • Oversee and manage daily operations to meet established goals in collaboration with section lead.
  • Implement programs to ensure users are aware of and follow network IA policies and procedures.
  • Install software for Nutanix configuration for Virtual Machines running various operating systems.
  • Perform routine checks for software updates and conduct Proof of Concept in a staging environment.
  • Ensure recovery checkpoints are completed on an hourly, daily, and weekly basis.
  • Report on-site to local Data Center and remote Disaster Recovery locations for hardware replacement.
  • Submit support requests with vendors for unresolved issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve systems failures and application issues with developers and customers.
  • Administer a variety of operating systems, servers, workstations, and network components.
  • Utilize Remedy Tickets to troubleshoot and resolve customer issues.
  • Build, monitor, maintain, upgrade, and secure server and storage hardware systems on NIPRNET and SIPRNET networks.
  • Act as POC for maintenance and administration of systems for onsite and remote locations.
  • Provide after-hours and weekend support for customers with maintenance windows outside regular hours.
  • Recommend and implement changes to information systems via management approval.
  • Utilize VMware vSphere vCenter and Nutanix Acropolis to manage multiple hosts and virtual machines.
  • Configure virtual networks and datastores, create VM templates, and apply patches and updates.
  • Conduct system diagnostics and repair or replace electronic equipment hardware.
  • Assist customers in installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software.
  • Generate trouble tickets and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to document work performed.
  • Perform system security checks and apply security measures to ensure compliance with DISA standards.

Requirements

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • IAT Level II (Security+) certification
  • 6 years of experience with Active Directory (AD), clustering, DNS, and DHCP
  • VMware Certified Associate (VCA) certification, with a willingness to obtain VCP within 6 months
