About the position

The Visiting Assistant Research Professor of Pediatrics serves as the AMPATH Pediatric Team Leader, responsible for fostering educational collaboration between North American and Kenyan institutions within the AMPATH program. This role involves full-time residency in Kenya, focusing on capacity building and workforce development in pediatric healthcare. The team leader will engage in teaching, mentoring, and clinical responsibilities while supporting the educational mission of the AMPATH consortium.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an ambassador for the AMPATH program, facilitating educational exchanges between North American and Kenyan institutions.
  • Host North American visitors in Kenya and coordinate electives for Kenyan learners in North America.
  • Function as a visiting lecturer at Moi University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
  • Participate in clinical care for pediatric patients, leading bedside teaching and rounds for Kenyan registrars and medical students.
  • Assist with global health-related educational activities for IU residents and students, including mentorship and curriculum development.
  • Facilitate pediatric research efforts by building relationships between North American and Kenyan researchers.
  • Oversee and deliver educational activities for North American trainees, focusing on global health and healthcare delivery in Kenya.
  • Coordinate schedules and logistics for visiting trainees and faculty from AMPATH North American schools.

Requirements

  • Doctorate or terminal degree required (MD or equivalent).
  • Completion of residency training in pediatrics or a combined pediatric residency program.
  • Board certified/eligible in pediatrics.
  • Prior international experience in underserved areas.
  • Commitment to global health as a career.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong teaching and mentoring abilities.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse groups.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in global health education and training.
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems in Kenya and other low-resource settings.
  • Experience with program development and quality improvement projects.
