About the position

The University of the Pacific, Benerd College is seeking part-time Visiting Instructors/Lecturers for Teacher Education Preparation Programs. These positions are non-tenure-track and involve teaching specific courses either in-person or online. The role emphasizes practitioner-based expertise and requires instructors to create a conducive learning environment while adhering to university policies and utilizing the Learning Management System (LMS) for course management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for courses by obtaining the approved syllabus and updating course schedules and teaching methods.
  • Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning and adhere to all university policies.
  • Teach assigned courses as published in the academic schedule and noted in the offer letter.
  • Track student attendance and refer students to support services for attendance or performance issues.
  • Utilize the University's LMS (CANVAS) to post syllabi, assignments, and communicate with students.
  • Provide timely feedback on student performance through written, oral, or video comments.
  • Hold office hours to meet with students for individualized direction and assessment of progress.
  • Work with administration to schedule make-up classes for any canceled sessions.
  • Grade mid-term and final examinations and submit grades per timelines using the My Pacific portal.
  • Review student course evaluations to analyze perceptions of teaching and identify areas for improvement.

Requirements

  • Must hold a graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Relevant professional experience in educational or other settings appropriate to the specific course.
  • Content and pedagogical knowledge required for the specific course.
  • Ability to teach adult learners.
  • Experience teaching or working directly with students online.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching in diverse settings and working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior higher education teaching experience.
  • Appropriate California teaching credential if applicable to program requirements.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices in their work.
