About the position

The School of Education at Indiana University South Bend is seeking a full-time Visiting Lecturer in Early Childhood/Elementary Education for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. The role focuses on teaching and implementing Science of Reading practices within teacher preparation programs, contributing to the academic community, and collaborating with faculty and K-12 schools.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching four courses per semester in early childhood education, elementary education, and related content for graduate and undergraduate teacher preparation programs.
  • Courses may be in-person, online, hybrid, or in additional formats, and may be offered in the evenings or on weekends.
  • Assisting with the implementation of Science of Reading pedagogy and methodology in teacher preparation coursework across undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Facilitating faculty and student training in Science of Reading.
  • Assisting in recruitment and retention efforts as needed.
  • Providing service to the school, college, campus, and university and participating in governance activities as appropriate to the visiting line.
  • Working collaboratively with faculty from other campuses, K-12 schools, and agencies.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience teaching literacy in the elementary classroom (prek-3).
  • Training or certification in Science of Reading.
  • Demonstration of excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctoral Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Experience implementing Science of Reading methods in elementary classrooms.
  • Experience and evidence of successful teaching at the university level, including in online settings.
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse faculty and student populations.
  • Experience facilitating curriculum development, mapping, and evaluation.
