About the position

DeVry University is seeking dedicated Industry Professionals with a terminal degree to join our team as Visiting Professors in Accounting. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about higher education and eager to share their knowledge and experience with students in various practitioner-based programs. As an Adjunct Faculty member, you will be responsible for teaching courses during the day, evening, and/or on Saturdays, ensuring that students receive a high-quality educational experience that aligns with DeVry University's standards and requirements. In this position, you will facilitate student learning by delivering educational courses and programs that meet the established objectives of DeVry University. You will develop course syllabi and lesson plans, applying effective teaching techniques to achieve the desired outcomes. All faculty members are required to participate in a comprehensive faculty training program and ongoing development activities to maintain the highest quality of instruction. Your responsibilities will include organizing and preparing course materials, utilizing appropriate technological tools for online learning, and engaging students through effective communication. You will set clear expectations for your courses, ensuring that students understand the terminal objectives, assignment deadlines, and evaluation criteria. Additionally, you will be responsible for preparing and grading exams fairly and consistently, providing timely feedback to students, and completing other duties as assigned. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a diverse and non-traditional educational environment and are committed to fostering student success.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and provides students with an approved DeVry University syllabus that follows a template established by the local campus, which includes the terminal course objectives.
  • Organizes, prepares, and regularly revises and updates all course materials.
  • Uses appropriate technological options for online technologies and course-related software, including Websites, e-mail, and online discussions for preparing the course and making it accessible to students.
  • Models effective oral and written communications that engage the students, provide clarity, and improve student learning.
  • Sets clear expectations for the course by publishing course terminal objectives, assignment/examinations dates, and weight the distribution of various evaluation categories.
  • Ensures that the content and level of material included on exams correspond to the course terminal objectives.
  • Demonstrates consistency and fairness in the preparation and grading of exams and provides timely feedback to students.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree (PhD, DBA, JD, Ed.D.) is required with 18 graduate hours in the subject being taught.
  • CPA Preferred.
  • Qualifying credentials must be awarded by an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Administration, or by an international institution determined to hold equivalent accreditation.
  • Faculty must have requisite subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills.
  • Faculty must also have excellent motivational and instructional skills in a diverse and non-traditional environment.
  • Must be able to work in a collegial manner and facilitate the efforts of diverse groups.
