About the position

The Visiting Research Laboratory Technician at the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology will engage in laboratory, field, and greenhouse work focused on the function and expression of photosynthetic genes as part of the RIPE project. This role is essential for advancing biotechnologies aimed at improving seed quality for farmers in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Processing plant tissue for RNA analysis, including RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, and qPCR.
  • Conducting field and greenhouse experiments, including planting, tissue collection, minor maintenance, taking physical and gas exchange measurements, and harvesting and processing harvested material.
  • Data entry, processing, and statistical analysis of gathered data, providing written summaries of these analyses.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in biochemistry, physiology, biology, or related disciplines.
  • Proven laboratory research experience, including adherence to safety protocols and understanding of current research methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. degree in biochemistry, physiology, biology, or related disciplines.
  • Two years' laboratory and field research experience.

Benefits
