About the position

The Visual Arts Exhibition and Lab Assistant TA position is designed for students with basic foundational knowledge in visual arts and little to no practical experience. This role is ideal for freshmen or sophomores who have completed only introductory courses. The position is split into two main responsibilities, each requiring 5 hours of work per week, with a total of 10 hours dedicated to the role. Students will work under the guidance of Visual Arts Faculty to plan and manage art exhibitions on campus, as well as assist students in the MCK 162 lab with technical questions related to design programs.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and manage art exhibitions on campus with guidance from Visual Arts Faculty.
• Design necessary signs and posters for exhibitions.
• Work with Visual Arts Faculty to plan themes and schedule exhibitions.
• Collect and curate art for display from various art courses throughout the semester.
• Install the work for exhibition including lighting and labels for each piece.
• Advertise and organize show openings.
• Assist in the take down of exhibitions once completed.
• Organize and manage gallery equipment such as lighting, frames, and pedestals.
• Help students with technical questions on design programs in the MCK 162 lab.
• Assist students in printing assignments.
• Maintain the lab in a clean and inspiring working condition.
• Perform light maintenance duties in the lab such as dusting and straightening equipment.
• Help maintain supplies including paper, ink, and toner.
• Perform light design work requested by the visual arts department.

Requirements

• Basic foundational knowledge in visual arts.
• Familiarity with design programs including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects.
• Ability to assist and communicate effectively with students.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with organizing events or exhibitions.
• Previous experience in a lab or technical support role.

Benefits

• Base rate of $14.00 per hour.
