About the position
The Visual Arts Specialist - Journey is responsible for developing, creating, executing, and managing graphic design projects within the Department of Creative Services at the university. This role involves collaborating with clients to define project requirements, translating their needs into design concepts, and ensuring a consistent visual identity for university publications and web pages. The specialist will utilize Adobe Creative Suite software to produce digital graphics for various media, while also managing project deadlines and maintaining accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Develop, create, execute, and manage graphic design projects assigned to the Department of Creative Services.
- Collaborate with clients, director, and senior editor to define project function, audience, distribution method, budget, and other pertinent factors.
- Translate client needs into design concepts and determine appropriate formats for publications.
- Specify typography, paper stock, dimensions, ink colors, folds, and other design criteria.
- Request photographers and coordinate photo sessions, including model selection and location choices.
- Art direct photo sessions and select, digitally enhance, crop, position, and size photographs.
- Create comprehensive designs and work with editors until final approval is achieved.
- Maintain a comprehensive visual identity program for the university by applying uniform graphic standards.
- Design digital graphics for web pages, advertisements, email marketing, and other electronic media.
- Save and back up files according to departmental standards and manage project deadlines.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency and two years of visual/graphic arts experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in digital graphic design and illustration.
