About the position

The Visual Content Creator at Virginia Tech's College of Architecture, Arts, and Design is responsible for producing, shooting, and editing video and photographic content that showcases the college's activities. This role involves collaborating with the communications team to create engaging visual stories for various audiences, including students, alumni, and industry partners. The position requires a creative individual who can manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality content that aligns with the college's branding and storytelling needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and develop storytelling ideas for video and photo content.
  • Produce, shoot, and edit video and photographic content for various platforms.
  • Collaborate with the college's communication team on projects.
  • Fulfill daily video and photo assignments that support college branding and campaigns.
  • Work independently or as part of a production crew as needed.
  • Edit, organize, and curate video and photo assets for various purposes.
  • Advise on best practices for visual content production across the college.
  • Repurpose content for different platforms and audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in video or film production, photography, visual communications, journalism, new media, fine arts, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in digital videography and photography.
  • Knowledge of professional-level techniques and standards in videography and photography.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and quick turnarounds in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency with using Canon DSLRs for shooting images and video.
  • Portfolio demonstrating knowledge of photography, videography, and editing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with video hosting platforms like YouTube and Kaltura.
  • Familiarity with popular social media platforms.
  • Experience in a higher education setting, preferably Virginia Tech.
  • Knowledge of branding and brand elements.
  • Writing experience.
  • Professionalism in collaborating with internal and external teams.
  • Experience managing photography and video storage and databases.
  • Familiarity with project management tools like Wrike.
