The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Engineering Technician 4 operates at a senior level within the engineering technician domain, requiring minimal supervision to perform advanced functions. This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of electronic applications, standards, and document control processes and procedures, which are essential for creating and modifying deliverables. The technician is expected to provide technical guidance and direction to other engineering professionals, including the delegation of work assignments, ensuring that all team members are aligned with project goals and standards. In terms of engineering standards, the technician applies their knowledge of various standards, systems, and departmental guides, as well as applicable codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures. A strong emphasis is placed on quality and continuous improvement, where the technician proactively applies the B&V Quality Program to all deliverables. This includes demonstrating personal accuracy and supporting continuous improvement and change management efforts. The technician is responsible for reviewing design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with specific codes and standards relevant to the project. The role also involves engineering production, where the technician broadens the use of applications to continuously evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures used to accomplish deliverables. They are tasked with creating and developing deliverables based on a variety of design inputs, which may include developing less complex design concepts and performing computations such as detailed material quantities and estimates. Project coordination is another critical aspect of this position, as the technician must coordinate deliverables with other groups involved in the same project to minimize interference or errors. They may also support field activities and be responsible for project finalization, which includes consolidating records for as-built drawings or information to take off as-built quantities. A strong client focus is essential, as the technician must understand the needs of internal clients while also gaining insight into external clients' main interests and drivers. Knowledge sharing is encouraged, with the technician proactively seeking and sharing knowledge of the latest technologies and processes. They may apply judgment and make decisions regarding deliverables and input interpretation.
