About the position

The Visual Designer position at Johns Hopkins University involves creating innovative visual concepts and layouts for various applications, including graphics, websites, and marketing materials. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong technical skills and the ability to communicate ideas effectively. The designer will work closely with the Program Director for Outreach and Engagement and collaborate with various teams to ensure brand alignment and high-quality design output.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize engaging and illustrative infographics for training sites, presentations, brochures, and reports.
• Design various website elements, including attractive banners, splash images, prominent buttons, menus, and icons.
• Source images (stock photos and video footage).
• Design various marketing materials for center projects and programs, including flyers, brochures, promotional items, booklets, conference handouts, signage, and posters.
• Create email marketing items, presentation materials, and interactive event materials.
• Create vibrant, informative, and engaging presentations for various audiences.
• Review materials created by others for standards and brand alignment.
• Collaborate with various Center teams on design needs.
• Quickly learn and integrate multiple Center project brand guidelines while adhering to the overall guidelines of Johns Hopkins University.
• Resize assets for different devices — tablet, mobile, and web.
• Juggle multiple projects simultaneously while effectively managing timelines and expectations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or related field.
• Two years of experience and a portfolio.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with transitions and dynamic interaction.
• Understanding of web design issues, including browser usability and cross-platform compatibility.
• Responsive design.
