About the position

The Visual Designer position at the Center for Technology in Education at Johns Hopkins University is a casual role focused on creating engaging visual content for various applications. The designer will utilize digital software to develop layouts and artwork that communicate ideas effectively to both internal and external audiences. This role involves collaboration with different teams and adherence to brand guidelines while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize engaging and illustrative infographics for training sites, presentations, brochures, and reports.
  • Design various website elements, including attractive banners, splash images, prominent buttons, menus, and icons.
  • Source images (stock photos and video footage).
  • Design various marketing materials for center projects and programs, including flyers, brochures, promotional items, booklets, conference handouts, signage, and posters.
  • Create email marketing items, presentation materials, and interactive event materials.
  • Create vibrant, informative, and engaging presentations for various audiences.
  • Review materials created by others for standards and brand alignment.
  • Collaborate with various Center teams on design needs.
  • Quickly learn and integrate multiple Center project brand guidelines while adhering to the overall guidelines of Johns Hopkins University.
  • Resize assets for different devices — tablet, mobile, and web.
  • Juggle multiple projects simultaneously while effectively managing timelines and expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or related field.
  • Two years of experience and a portfolio.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Understanding of web design issues, including browser usability and cross-platform compatibility.
  • Responsive design experience.
  • Strong design and troubleshooting skills, as well as an eye for detail.
  • A solid foundation in typography, layout, and design.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with transitions and dynamic interaction.
