About the position

The Visual Designer at Lincoln Children's Zoo plays a crucial role in supporting the Director of Communication to execute the annual marketing plan. This position focuses on graphic design, social media management, and photography/videography to ensure cohesive branding and effective communication with the public. The designer will create various marketing materials, manage social media content, and assist in the planning of marketing strategies, contributing to the Zoo's mission of enriching lives through interaction with living things.

Responsibilities

  • Create/design marketing materials including signage, print and digital ads, flyers, brochures, illustrations, digital graphics, post cards, invitations.
  • Create the twice a year membership magazine Zootracks in partnership with the Director of Communications, including layout design, content planning, photo gathering, copywriting, ad design, kid's activity design.
  • Manage print and signage ordering through various outside vendors.
  • Create and schedule content for the Zoo's Instagram and Facebook accounts, including photos, reels, graphics.
  • Take, edit and organize photos of Zoo animals and events.
  • Create videos for marketing and development purposes.
  • Responsible for the creation and distribution of email newsletters.
  • Create or update content for the Zoo's website when needed.
  • Work in cooperation with other staff as well as independently on special or ongoing projects.
  • Prioritize a diverse project workload to meet deadlines.
  • Perceive customer satisfaction as a primary focus and continually strive to exceed the expectations of guests.
  • Take instruction from the Director of Communications to perform other functions as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the Lincoln Children's Zoo.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, or a Degree with an emphasis on graphic design, advertising or marketing.
  • Extensive understanding of Adobe Creative Suite with an emphasis on Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro.
  • Photography and video experience, preferably with professional level camera equipment.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and be comfortable working with both internal and external audiences.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to balance multiple projects/tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to take direction when needed and provide self-direction to complete projects/tasks.
