The Visual Information Specialist at the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) plays a crucial role in the Criminal Investigation Division by providing expert guidance on the visual display of factual data and courtroom evidence. This position involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including IRS Special Agents and U.S. government attorneys, to create compelling visual materials that effectively communicate evidence in legal contexts. The specialist is responsible for revising materials as needed, ensuring compliance with established rules and guidelines, and presenting completed assignments for high-level meetings and briefings. Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on the visual display of factual data and courtroom evidence according to established rules and guidelines.
  • Consult with customers from various departments to ascertain their desired products and establish deadlines.
  • Discuss upcoming court cases with IRS Special Agents and law enforcement personnel to determine the best graphical presentation of evidence.
  • Revise materials prior to and during courtroom proceedings to reflect changes in evidence or information as needed.
  • Meet with executives, special agents, and attorneys to discuss design elements and visual graphics that meet customer needs.
  • Plan, design, and produce visual materials that align with the overall mission of the Criminal Investigation Division.
  • Create visuals in support of special investigations and covert surveillance activities.
  • Demonstrate how published products can enhance communications to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 in Federal service, or 1 year of graduate education in a related field, or superior academic achievement.
  • Experience applying graphic design knowledge and using software applications like InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Experience writing business correspondence and developing design briefs.
  • Experience coordinating with stakeholders to determine graphical presentation needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.
