About the position

As an Artificial Intelligence Specialist for the CIA, you will employ a wide range of AI techniques, including deep learning, machine learning, multi-agent systems, expert systems, and mixed-initiative human-machine teaming. Your primary focus will be on enabling outstanding intelligent collection and the exploitation of data from sophisticated collection systems. The AI solutions you develop will enhance the performance of these systems, allowing for faster, deeper, and better-explained insights. Ultimately, your work will boost the performance of mission experts by facilitating human-machine collaboration and algorithmically presenting the right insights to the right experts. The CIA's collection systems provide specialized insights across various phenomena and data types. Your AI work will span the Agency, involving edge processing, core processing, and autonomous capabilities. You will collaborate with teams of world-class experts, both internal and external to the CIA, often steering large collaborative teams. Your contributions will be realized through advanced hardware, software, and computational platforms, emphasizing highly scalable and efficient solutions that bring exploitation capabilities to production and address the nation's most challenging national security issues. Problem-solving in this role is highly collaborative. You will work alongside problem domain experts, data and collection specialists, systems designers and integrators, and analysts who interpret the insights you derive. Your professional development will be supported through Agency-sponsored continuing education, academic and conference participation, and integrated on-the-job training with deep domain experts.

Responsibilities

  • Employ a wide range of AI techniques to enhance intelligent collection and data exploitation.
  • Develop AI solutions that improve the performance of collection systems.
  • Facilitate human-machine teaming to provide insights to mission experts.
  • Collaborate with internal and external experts to steer large teams in AI projects.
  • Utilize advanced hardware, software, and computational platforms for scalable solutions.
  • Work with problem domain experts and analysts to derive actionable insights from data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in a quantitative science, engineering, or other STEM field.
  • At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale.
  • Experience in a STEM-related field such as Computational Social Science, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Economics, Engineering, Geospatial Analysis, Mathematics, Operations Research, Quantitative Finance, or Statistics.
  • Experience applying AI techniques to real-world data through thesis research, internships, or work experience.
  • Good understanding of a range of AI techniques and ability to match techniques to problems.
  • Creativity, initiative, integrity, leadership abilities, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to meet the minimum requirements for joining CIA, including U.S. citizenship and a background investigation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in a data science or computational science equivalent field or sub-field.
  • Experience working with data-rich problems through research or programs.
  • Experience with computer programming or user experience/user interface.
  • Ability to guide diverse teams and leverage best commercial and industrial capabilities.
  • Ability to successfully complete projects with large or incomplete data.
