About the position
The position involves creating and constructing merchandise displays in Navy Exchange facilities, supporting the mission of providing quality goods and services to military personnel and their families. The role includes visual merchandising, clerical functions, and collaboration with store management to enhance customer engagement through effective displays.
Responsibilities
- Constructs, arranges, and maintains effective visual merchandising presentations and displays in various Exchange locations.
- Decorates designated areas such as showcases, ledges, shelves, and fixtures.
- Sets up focal displays near entrances to attract customer attention, supporting seasonal moods or special merchandising events.
- Prepares appropriate signs and show cards as required.
- Works with store management on decoration and display requirements, including designing key department displays.
- Sets up mannequins, center counter displays, and shadow box displays as instructed.
- Enters information into a computer for sign making and determines layout and color selection.
- Reviews and adjusts copy to ensure compatibility with formats and specifications.
- Plans, schedules, and transmits completed formats as required.
- Utilizes desktop publishing programs to prepare specifications for printed materials and signs.
- Reviews final products against specifications to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Receives requisitions from Exchange departments for specific sign printing projects.
- Uses sign machines to print display signs, flyers, price cards, and related work.
- Delivers completed signs to requesting departments and assists with installation.
- Maintains records and logs on duplicating and sign-making services provided.
- Procures materials and supplies needed for sign-making assignments.
- Takes publicity photographs and writes articles for the employee newsletter on sales and events.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience demonstrating necessary mechanical and artistic skills in visual merchandising display and communication.
- Drivers license required for positions with driving responsibilities.
- Ability to climb ladders and lift objects occasionally weighing up to 50 lbs.
Nice-to-haves
- Education in specialized schools of interior decoration, design, or art may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- 1 year of education in an accredited college or university may substitute for each year of experience if it includes courses in interior decoration, design, architecture, commercial art, or related fine arts.
