About the position

The VITA Site Tax Preparer is responsible for performing comprehensive income tax preparation services, including document review, intake interviews, return preparation, quality review, and exit interviews with taxpayers. This role aims to assist taxpayers in completing their tax returns accurately while identifying additional resources that may benefit them. The position is part-time and volunteer-based, primarily serving the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College community.

Responsibilities

• Completes IRS training and certification as outlined in the Training Section.
• Certify at the Advanced level and as an IRS Site Coordinator.
• Conducts Intake Interviews.
• Prepares high quality tax returns that correctly apply tax law and ensure that all allowable credits are claimed.
• Ensures that the IRS Quality Review Process is followed.
• Makes referrals for other community resources.
• Collaboratively work with the VITA Tax Coordinator at the main Rufty Holmes site to provide tax services to Rowan-Cabarrus Community College students and the community.
• Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College and attends College events and meetings as requested.
• Performs other duties appropriate to the position and as assigned by the VITA Site Tax Coordinator.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in related field and two years of experience in tax preparation OR a certificate in related field with three years of experience in tax preparation.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and comfort with a wide range of people.
• Critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment.
• Ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus and College locations.

Nice-to-haves

• A bachelor's degree in related field.
• Four years of previous experience preparing multiple tax returns for a variety of taxpayers.
• Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
