About the position

The Vivo Animal Research Investigator at the National Center for Wellness and Recovery (NCWR) is a full-time position focused on advancing research in neuroscience, addiction, and pain management through in vivo studies. The role involves significant hands-on work in the animal vivarium, with opportunities for strategic and managerial responsibilities for more senior candidates. The position is grant-funded and aims to contribute to the development of innovative treatment modalities for chronic pain and substance use disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in vivo animal research using specialized techniques such as DREADD and imaging methods.
  • Learn and apply new behavioral techniques and animal models independently or as part of a team.
  • Utilize software related to behavioral testing and data collection.
  • Maintain detailed records and ensure lab safety, including the use of controlled substances.
  • Design and perform experimental models related to pain and addiction behavior in rodents.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams to establish screening criteria and test novel compounds.
  • Write grant proposals, present at meetings, and contribute to patent applications and technical documents.
  • Supervise staff, including PhDs and non-PhDs, setting goals and mentoring as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or a related field.
  • In vivo animal research experience is required, including post-doctoral, academic, or industry experience.
  • Broad knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry to support in vivo models.
  • Experience in pre-clinical rodent models related to substance use disorders and pain.
  • Excellent understanding of IACUC-related concepts and familiarity with AAALAC standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Operational knowledge of multiple animal models and equipment.
  • Experience in grant writing, publication, and report writing.
  • Industrial experience in a related field.
  • Experience with laboratory animal surgery and post-operative care.
