About the position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the Rheumatology/Immunology Outpatient Clinic at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) plays a crucial role in managing the care of acute and complex chronically ill patients. This position involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, providing high-quality patient care, and ensuring effective communication and documentation. The NP/PA is responsible for conducting assessments, diagnosing conditions, formulating and implementing care plans, and participating in professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document complete history and physical examinations for patients.
  • Order and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques and diagnostic procedures.
  • Serve as the first responder for patient status changes and procedural interventions.
  • Assess risks associated with care for acute and complex chronically ill patients.
  • Coordinate daily rounds with attending physician teams and present patient reports.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to make diagnoses of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Manage diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, and supervision.
  • Formulate and document a plan of care addressing complex health care needs.
  • Prescribe diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions as needed.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the healthcare team and facilitate continuity of care.
  • Document key components of patient progress in medical records.
  • Demonstrate professional practice behaviors including mentoring and education of students and staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing or related field.
  • Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in Tennessee.
  • Relevant work experience of less than 1 year.
  • Strong foundation in evidence-based practice and clinical competence.

  • Experience in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
  • Certification in advanced procedures relevant to the role.
